Last night my friend Chris Cullinan led the band FunkJunky at Red Room for an hour and a half of rocking. I played drums for Chris as per our karmic arrangement, in this life, to drum for one another's music.
The Red Room is red. This might seem like an obvious statement. It's red all over, like a newspaper. I wore blue to stand out. I also wore my blue shades which made the whole place look kind of pinkish-purple. Whatever. Even the colorblind can rock.
Our lineup last night included Chris on guitar and vocals, Jon Taylor on bass, and a dood named Pete on keys - a fabulous player with whom I had only played once, the night before last.
The intent is to have a live band to back karaoke singing with printed lyrics instead of a machine and monitor. I like this idea. The worse the singer might be, the better the band looks by comparison!
I spent the entire night feeling great about rocking but also wondering if this rocking was as good as any other. Can a creative musician be happy filling his time with cover versions? Only time will tell....
